Fall is on its way, and that means we’re planning for our 400 Meals project. Each year during the months of November-March, we deliver dinner for 20 to the Rod’s House Extreme Weather Shelter. The loaves pictured above are made by the inimitable Nona Schulz, who has generously offered to be our official bread baker for this season, which is fantastic news because her offerings get rave reviews. If you’d like to be part of our community meal project, here are a few ways to get involved:

1) Donate produce.  If you’ve got extra bounty coming out of your garden, let us know. We’ll pick it up, put it up, and turn it into a yummy hot dish.

2) Plant a row for Rod’s House. If you’ve got garden space, consider growing a little extra this fall or next spring. Free seeds can be found at the front desk of your local library branch.

3) Save and donate seeds. The good folks at Johnson Orchards are now accepting seed donations for distribution at Yakima Valley Library branches. Just pop your dried seeds in a container, label them, and drop them off at the counter. (Oh and don’t forget your hand pie!)

4) Sign up with our team to make dessert or salad for 20. Desserts can be premade and stored in our freezer. Salads are made fresh each week. Email [email protected] for available dates.

5) Form your own meal team and sign up to provide a meal. Visit the Rod’s House website to learn more about meal partner options.

6) Keep Us Cookin’! Patreon supporters and farm store customers help keep the cook in the kitchen over the winter months. If you’re looking for plant starts, fresh produce or local, seasonal gifts, please consider buying from YakimaBeach.com. Every patron and every purchase truly help.
