Description

An evergreen shrub, native to western North America, that provides nectar for pollinators. Known for its holly-like, spiny leaves that turn reddish in winter, bright yellow spring flowers, and clusters of blue-black berries that can be made into juice, syrup or jelly, this low-maintenance plant tolerates various conditions, including shade and drought, and spreads via rhizomes, making it useful for ground cover or hedges.
